Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Independent Society (independentsociety.space, "the Site", "we") collects when you visit or use the Site, and how that information is used.

Who we are

Independent Society is an independently run blog. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, you can reach us atsuprun.jen@gmail.com or via the Contact page.

What information we collect

We collect only what's needed to run the features on this Site:

• Account & sign-in: if you sign in to comment or react to a post, we collect the email address you provide. Sign-in uses a passwordless "magic link" — we never see or store a password.
• Comments: if you post a comment, the comment text, the time it was posted, and its association with your account are stored so the comment can be displayed on the relevant post.
• Reactions: likes/dislikes on posts are stored and linked to your account so each account can only react once per post.
• Basic technical data: like most websites, our hosting provider automatically logs standard technical information (such as IP address and browser type) for security and reliability purposes.

We do not collect payment information, and we do not currently run any advertising or analytics tracking on the Site beyond what's described below.

How we use your information

• To let you sign in and keep you signed in between visits
• To display your comments and reactions on posts
• To keep the Site secure and prevent abuse
• To understand, in aggregate, how the Site is found and used, so we can improve it

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Third-party services we use

We rely on a small number of third-party services to run the Site. Each only receives the data it needs to perform its function:

• Supabase — provides authentication (magic-link sign-in) and stores account, comment, and reaction data on our behalf. SeeSupabase's Privacy Policy.
• Vercel — hosts the Site and handles standard technical/server logs. SeeVercel's Privacy Policy.
• Google Search Console — used by us to monitor how the Site performs in Google Search. It does not collect personal data from visitors; it reports aggregate search performance data to us. SeeGoogle's Privacy Policy.

Cookies

We use a cookie set by Supabase to keep you signed in between visits. This is a functional cookie required for the sign-in, commenting, and reactions features to work — we don't use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Your rights

The only data we hold about you is the email address you signed in with, and any comments or reactions posted under your account. You can ask us to see, correct, export, or delete this data at any time by emailingsuprun.jen@gmail.com. Deleting your account will remove your stored email address; you may also ask us to remove specific comments.

Children's privacy

The Site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Site changes — for example, if we add analytics or advertising in the future, we'll update this page to reflect exactly what's added and how it affects your data. We'll update the "Last updated" date above whenever we make changes.
